The first Kiwanis Club in Evansville was chartered December 13, 1918, and a Centennial Celebration to celebrate the beginning of Kiwanis in Evansville will be held on September 23, 2018, at the Willard Library Park from Noon to 4:00 p.m. Food, fun, games, and calliope music. Open to the public. (a donation box will be set out for catering cost instead of collecting individual fees) Willard Library will have on display Kiwanis information and items from the past that have been stored in their archives.
As a special project for the event, the Kiwanis Clubs will raise funds to purchase a playground item (school bus) for the new Stop Light City Playground located at Franklin and Lloyd. Each playground piece will be custom designed and fabricated to represent various modes of transportation, and the playground will be wheelchair accessible. See Stop Light City Playground on Facebook.
